Services

Communication is how we connect with others and interact with the environment around us. At Communication Connection, we build connections with our patients and their families in order to create individualized treatment plans to ensure success for our patients.

Communication Connection treats the pediatric and school-age population in Michigan. Treatment is offered in-home, in-school, and through teletherapy. In-home therapy is offered in southeast Michigan. Travel charges may apply. Please contact us for pricing information.

Evaluations

Evaluations provide an in-depth look at a patient's speech and language skills.  Parts of an evaluation include formal and informal testing along with a patient case history and parent input. If treatment is recommended the collaborative intervention process begins to develop the most effective and efficient speech and language therapy treatment plan.

Treatment Sessions

Treatment sessions are between 30-45 minutes. Children and adolescents learn best while engaged in fun and enjoyable activities. Treatment sessions are personalized to the patient's interests and goals.

Language

Expressive language is the words we use to express and communicate with others. Receptive language is our understanding of the words and messages we hear. Signs of a potential language delay include difficulty understanding, writing, speaking, reading, reading comprehension, and using the appropriate grammar.

Articulation

Articulation or speech sounds are terms used to describe how we produce sounds when speaking. Common signs of an articulation disorder or delay are difficulty understanding what someone says and difficulty producing sounds and words.

Fluency and Stuttering

Fluency disorders impact the smoothness and continuity of speech. Stuttering is the most common fluency disorder. Common signs of stuttering or a fluency disorder include, interruptions of speech such as repetitions or prolongations of sounds or syllables, or difficulty starting the pronunciation of a word.

Social Communication

Social communication includes everything from body language to tone voice, verbal and non-verbal communication, and the ability to change those aspects based on the social situation and what is appropriate.

Parent Coaching

Parent coaching is a part of every treatment session. Parents have the option to schedule longer parent coaching sessions if desired. It is vital to create a support system to ensure parents are confident when supporting their child in achieving their speech and language goals.
